“One day you will look back and see that all along: you were blooming”
– Morgan Harper Nichols
Have you ever realized that it is not until you look back on an old photo or reminisce on a memory that you think about that time differently? I know for me personally, there have been countless times where I could not see in the moment the disguised blessing of a setback until I was no longer living it. For example, before I sought out social media marketing, I was studying to be an elementary education teacher. My path completely changed when I didn’t pass the mandatory Praxis exam, and was set back a semester behind because of it. At that moment, I felt so lost and disappointed in myself. Little did I know that during that semester, I’d realize I no longer wanted to be a teacher and that social media marketing was not only something I was good at, but I absolutely loved it. This is just one example. When life throws us these setbacks, or we find ourselves in a season of waiting for that next door to open, sometimes we can’t comprehend that those exact moments are where we grow the most, BLOOM the most. It can be easy to allow our minds to negatively spiral over something we feel at the moment is out of our control and not going the way we want it to. Although the reality is, if you just take one second to breathe, I am sure everyone reading this can think back on a time where that same type of situation ended up working out or even better, you learned a valuable lesson.
Here are 5 steps on how to find purpose in each season of your life.
Realize the destination isn’t the gift, but the gifts are given along the way
It is incredible to have goals in life. In fact, I believe that having goals gives life more meaning, but how many of us have met a goal, and have already set a higher bar to be reached? It is imperative that we understand that what we learn along the way, is far more rewarding than the goal itself. Once you grasp that concept, you will learn to accept and appreciate the journey far more.
Reminisce on a time that a setback ended up being a blessing in disguise
If it has happened before, it can happen again. Many times our mind is so quick to jump to conclusions, but thinking back on those times that ended up working out can alter our negative thinking. What we say and think holds so much power, so you must stay positive and hopeful. Take a step back to think about those times and train yourself to think positive thoughts.
Remind yourself that you need to walk through a hallway to get to another door
We live in a generation that HATES waiting. When we want something, we want it right then and there. Sometimes that isn’t even enough that we want it before we even think about wanting it. Whatever that “it” is for you, sometimes the reality is, we aren’t truly ready to enjoy what it is we actually want, or we can’t handle what is coming next. That is where the journey comes in. The journey or that “waiting period” is the exact time where we are growing into who we truly want to be. Learn to appreciate how far you have come, where you are now, and who you are becoming.
Take the fear of failing out of the equation. At the end of the day, we are truly our biggest critique. What is for you can never be taken away from you. Sometimes simply resting on the fact that you are living in this moment and you are exactly who you need to be right now is enough.

Matthew 6:34 is “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
